Together with a group of students, we are designing, building and testing a working model of a hydropower plant intended for demonstration and future laboratory use. The project involves adapting a CAD model of a reversible water turbine based on calculations and simulations, manufacturing it using 3D printing, and then conducting measurements to compare with theoretical models and CFD simulations. The plant is designed to operate both in turbine mode for energy generation and in pump mode for energy storage the same principle used in pumped-storage power plants around the world to balance the electrical grid. Diploma and scholarship for innovative thesis
Title: Investigation, construction and flight of a drone.
Together with a group of high school students, we designed and built a fully functional hexacopter drone. The drone used software to self-balance in flight using gyroscopes and accelerometers. A key part of the work involved deep-diving into each component from ESC regulators and brushless motors to flight controllers and radio receivers to understand how the system works as a whole. Special consideration was given to magnetic fields and their impact on compass and navigation sensors. The project was awarded a diploma and scholarship for innovative thesis work.
Motivation: "Sometimes what you thought a thesis would be doesn't quite turn out that way. The students behind this thesis changed direction halfway through what the work would be about. It turned out to be the right decision. Their thesis is both innovative and creative. It shows how inventive the students are and how they independently solve problems that arise and drive the work forward."
